Amoxil (Amoxicillin)

Generic Name: amoxicillin, pronounced as am OX i sil in

Brand Name: Amoxil

Product Description

A widely-used drug that belongs to the penicillin group, Amoxil is an antibiotic that fights infections caused by bacteria. It can also be used to treat various types of infections caused by bacteria, such as gonorrhea, pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, and infections of the urinary tract, skin, throat, and nose.

It can also be used alongside other medications, specifically the antibiotic clarithromycin (Biaxin), to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. A stomach acid reducer called Lansoprazole (Prevacid) is sometimes used with Amoxil.

Key Information About Amoxil

– Viral Infections

Amoxil is not a medication to treat viral infections such as flu or common cold. If another person have the same symptoms you do, do not attempt to give the medication. Always consult a doctor.

– Prescribed Length Of Time

It is important to follow your doctor’s prescribed length of time to take the medication. Just because your symptoms have gotten better, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the infection has been completely treated.

– Diarrhea

Another thing to consider when taking antibiotic medicines is that you may experience diarrhea, which is normally a sign that there is a new infection. Call your doctor right away if you have watery or bloody diarrhea. Do not take any drugs to stop diarrhea without your doctor’s prescription.
